About the Position

The role of the Counsellor is to promote the independence and healthy development of individuals, couples and families through the provision of quality counselling and program delivery.

A key focus of our approach is to strengthen family relationships and reduce the adverse impacts of separation and divorce.

Specifically, the position is responsible for:

  • Providing counselling for children, individuals, couples, and families
  • Undertaking assessments with a focus on child wellbeing and safety, including family violence screening
  • Providing group work interventions as required
  • Facilitating referrals to appropriate services and organisations

To be considered, you will require:

  • A degree in psychology, social work, counselling or family therapy and membership of (or eligibility for) relevant professional body such as AASW, AAFT, APS, PACFA.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals, families and in particular children in a counselling/family services setting is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating therapeutic and educational groups.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the Family Law Act (1975), amended 2006, and to operate at all times with knowledge of the provisions of the Act.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in working with individuals and families from indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
