The Role

As a Case Worker in the Rent Relief program, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals and families to maintain secure housing. Working within Centrecare's guidelines and quality assurance requirements, you will advocate on behalf of clients, liaise with various agencies, and assist clients in navigating the complexities of the sustaining their tenancy.

  • Complete quality intake, screening, assessment, brief informal counselling and referral to appropriate support services to people who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness.
  • To complete holistic assessments to consider client eligibility for the Rent Relief Scheme, and to complete related brokerage applications as required. To identify suitable cases for ongoing case management support
  • To drive, support and work within Centrecare’s Therapeutic Framework to ensure consistency in program design, program application (integrity), service delivery, and outcome measurement and opportunities for client feedback.
  • To provide support to people who may be experiencing rental stress. This will include effectively linking clients with mainstream services to address a range of issues including employment, health, financial management and social integration to achieve long term, secure, stable housing.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients with Private Real Estate Agencies, Private Landlords, Emergency Relief Agencies, Centrelink, and other tenancy-related support agencies.

Selection Criteria

  • Recognised tertiary level qualifications in Social Work, Community Development, Social Sciences or related disciplines.
  • Relevant experience in the areas of outreach, homelessness, individual/family support and/or case management.
  • Well-developed communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Computer literacy skills and the ability to collect statistical data related to service delivery.
  • Ability to work with a broad cross section of people to include business, other community-based agencies, private real estate agents, government and different socio-economic groups.
  • An understanding of strength-based approaches to client services.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Possession of a current ‘C’ (previously ‘A’) class driver’s licence.
  • National Police Clearance and Working with Children Card
