The Service: Homelessness Accommodation Support – North West

This service, run in partnership with the Patricia Giles Centre and Youth Futures WA, is for young people, single adults, couples, families and women with children escaping domestic violence, who are exiting the National Affordable Housing Agreement (NAHA) accommodation services. Housing support workers provide intensive support to people who have experienced homelessness to secure and maintain stable, long-term accommodation.

The Role

As Housing Support Worker, you will assist clients to address previous tenancy/homelessness issues and assist them to obtain and maintain long term stable accommodation. This will include working with individuals, families, and single parents escaping domestic violence, to ensure people at risk of homelessness are effectively linked with mainstream services to address a range of issues including employment, health, financial management, and social integration, to achieve long term, secure, stable housing.

  • Undertake assessment and case management of clients using a holistic approach to address tenancy issues, improve and enhance their overall personal and social development, and their health and wellbeing.
  • To deliver therapeutic and skill development services to clients to build capacity, improve understanding, and create resilience.
  • To establish relevant networks and links with the community and other service providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary level qualifications in Community Development, Social Work, Social Sciences or related disciplines.
  • Relevant experience in the areas of outreach, homelessness, individual/family support and/or case management.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to work within a team.
  • Ability to work with a broad cross section of people to include business, other community-based agencies, private real estate agents, government and different socio-economic groups.
  • An understanding of strength-based approaches to client services.
  • Valid driver's license, Federal Police Clearance and current or ability to obtain a Working with Children’s Card.
