About The Role
NEDA is currently seeking a part-time Communications Officer to be based in our office in Canberra and join our expanding team of professionals.
This dynamic role would suit a well organised, strong project focused individual who is efficient, has an eye for detail and enjoys managing multiple priorities, utilising sound judgement, discretion and initiative.
Purpose of the Position
- To manage and drive NEDA’s communication activities
- To work collaboratively with team members in accordance with NEDA’s strategic plan
Organisational Relationships
- Reporting to the Senior Research and Policy Officer, the Communications Officer will also be required to work collaboratively with the CEO and the policy and project teams
- The Communications Officer will be required to build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the wider disability and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) community
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strengthen NEDA’s communications presence through the use of new and existing communication channels
- Develop, oversee and implement NEDA’s communication strategy
- Liaise with the CEO and Senior Research and Policy Officer to respond to media enquiries and arrange for media releases and interviews
- Provide strategic communications advice to the CEO on areas impacting people with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- Work in collaboration with NEDA’s preferred web development agency in developing a new, user-friendly and accessible website for NEDA
- Develop a NEDA style and language guide to ensure consistent branding and messaging in all NEDA communications
- Create templates for submissions, letters to Ministers, factsheets and other key public-facing documents
- Work with graphic designers and/or communication agencies to create meaningful, culturally appropriate and disability inclusive communication materials
- Represent NEDA in forums, meetings and within communication and/or marketing activities
- Undertake special tasks on an ad hoc basis, as required and directed by the CEO and/or the Senior Research & Policy Officer
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated experience in developing content for social media, newsletters, factsheets, reports and other key communication channels
- Demonstrated experience managing social media and creating digital content using graphic designing and video editing skills
- Demonstrated experience writing media releases with short notice
- Demonstrated experience working with journalists to respond to media enquiries and develop stories
- Demonstrated skills in building connections with key stakeholders, such as journalists and representatives from Federal Government departments
- Experience in using desktop publishing applications such as Mailchimp and Drupal
- Good consultative skills, including the ability to liaise with people with lived experience of disability and people from CALD backgrounds.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including exemplary writing skills
