Charis Mentoring Inc. is a dynamic Pasifika youth organisation, that provides strength-based innovative mentoring programs to equip and empower young Pacific people. Our vision is to see young people in their element serving and leading the way. We currently deliver programs within secondary schools, community and youth justice settings, predominantly in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Charis Mentoring prides itself on working from a Pasifika culturally responsive framework that is inclusive and adaptable for all.

THE ROLE

We are seeking two passionate and competent Youth Workers, to engage and support the wellbeing of young people within schools, community and/or Youth Justice setting using our unique Pasifika Strengths-based framework.

The two positions available are

  1. Full-time - 12 month fixed term contract
  2. Casual - 24 hours p/week

The desired youth worker will:

  • Be passionate about working with youth
  • Have strong knowledge and understanding of Pasifika cultures, young people, family and community dynamics
  • Have excellent interpersonal communication skills to liaise with young people, families communities and other key partners.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, have a willingness to learn and attain new skills and work in a team environment.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in providing youth work support within schools, community and/or youth justice settings and can engage effectively with young people, families and communities.
  • A minimum qualification in Diploma of Community Services and/or extensive industry experience
  • Position is subject to Working with Children Checks and Police Record
  • A current Drivers Licence and own vehicle is required (km’s reimbursed)

Both Youth Worker positions will have a key program focus but will need to be flexible to work across all our programs.
