  • Permanent part-time 20hrs per week
  • Pay Point – SCHADS Award, ranging from level 3 based on qualifications and experience.
  • $38 844 per annum + superannuation and leave loading

The Charleville Neighbourhood Centre is seeking a part-time Youth Support Service Worker to join our team.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication and organisational skills providing case management and case work, guidance and support to Charleville youth aged between 12 – 21 years.

About the role:

Our Youth Support Worker will provide access and case management support to young people aged 12-21 who are at risk of disconnecting from their family or community.

The service will facilitate the delivery of effective and coordinated support to Young People. The intensity and duration of support provided will be determined by the needs of the young person.

Working from a strengths-based framework to improve the safety and wellbeing and improve outcomes for young people in the community including;

  • Assistance to access the range of supports which may be available, enabling young people to make informed decisions.
  • Support to young people, including practical assistance and case management of a collaborative response supported by other agencies to meet the needs of young people.
  • Reducing harm - including substance abuse, risk taking, self-harm/injury and suicide.
  • Participate in education, training and/or employment and other activities within their community.
  • Supporting and strengthening connection with family, culture and community.
  • Access opportunities that increase young people’s ability to attain personal and aspirational goals.
  • Be inclusive and supportive of all young people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, those from culturally diverse backgrounds, those experiencing discrimination on the basis of their sexuality, disability or mental health, those experiencing disadvantage or barriers to participation, and young people involved with the criminal justice system.

Skills, competencies and attributes required – Selection Criteria

The successful applicant must have:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly the ability to connect with young people aged 12 - 21 years
  • An excellent level of written, oral and computer skills including the use of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Organisational and time management skills are essential.
  • Experience in the areas of – client support and public liaison, working with other services to meet client needs.
  • Possession of a current “C” class driver’s licence
  • Possession of a “Positive Notice” Blue Card, and consent to having a National Police Criminal check.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate or attend first training when available.
  • Personal character strengths of honesty, respect, integrity and fairness with the ability to work cooperatively in a team, showing initiative and ability to also work independently.
  • Willingness to participate in networks and partnerships with other agencies and Government departments across the geographical area.
  • The ability to ensure effective and positive working relationships are developed and maintained within the Charleville Neighbourhood Centre and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to keep current, accurate records in accordance with the organisation’s policies.
  • The ability to collect and maintain accurate and up to date data entry, information, records, reporting and files of contact with clients and external services that is in accordance with the requirements of the Youth Support Service.
  • An understanding of working cross culturally, and child protection reporting requirements.

  • It is imperative that the successful applicant have exceptional communication skills and the ability and willingness to work in a team environment with a client centred focus.
