Supporting Independent Living Co-operative (SILC) is on the hunt for an experienced, passionate and creative Manager who is keen to grow a small team of staff and see 2 residents move out of their family homes for the first time! SILC is an NDIS Supporting Independent Living Provider whose mission is to create great, sustainable homes and life experiences for people living with disability and allows for family/carer involvement in all aspects.

Cherish Hub Co-operative Ltd has recently been formed by 2 families who plan to slowly transition their family members (Natasha & Damian who are in their 20’s) into a new home in the Ermington area, that will be supported by 24/7 staffing. This milestone transition for both the residents and families will involve lots of interaction to help bed down all issues and requirements so the right person for the role will need to be resourceful, a very good communicator, dynamic and confident to suggest ideas and protocols.

  • You can demonstrate industry experience as a manager or team leader, or are willing to upskill in this area.
  • You can demonstrate experience in showing how residents and staff have respected you because you know how to balance care and genuine. compassion with their safety, well-being, personal growth and independence.
  • You walk the talk and will set a good example for residents, staff, families and SILC.
  • Your personality is embracing, encouraging and nurturing of the residents as well as professional and managerial.
  • You have the ability to create a family style environment where the residents will feel cherished, feel safe, understood and feel a sense of belonging and ownership.
  • You are calm, conscientious and caring.
  • You are super organised with proficient verbal and written communication skills to boot
  • Your qualifications look like a Cert IV (Disabilities) or equivalent or better (e.g., nursing, mental health, allied health, psychology, social work, teaching).
  • You can accept that the occasional overnight, weekend, public holiday and emergency on call shifts are part and parcel of a manager/shift worker role.
  • You have a current driver’s license and you drive like a safety pro and have a NSW WWCC, Police check, First Aid certificate, CPR or a willingness to obtain

WHAT THE JOB ENTAILS

  • Supporting the establishment of a home to male (Damian) and female (Natasha) residents who have autism and supporting them to live their best most independent life by providing and overseeing their medical, well-being, personal care and social needs (in collaboration with their families).
  • Managing a house with staff and residents with disability with great efficiency ensuring that administration, compliance, rostering and household tasks (including cooking, cleaning, washing, general home maintenance) are operating with great precision.
  • Bouncing ideas and brainstorm ideas on how to best cater to Natasha and Damian needs will be required. It will be an evolving project as they both adapt and also mature in age.
  • Being able to communicate very well with Natasha and Damian on their level and with the families will be essential.
  • Providing a high-quality person-centred living experience to residents and their families.
  • Providing transformational leadership, coaching and direction to a small team of 6-8 House Support Workers (SILC will support this skill development).
  • Managing the full life cycle of House Support Workers including sourcing, interviewing, onboarding, staff meetings, shift/leave/roster management and coordinating mandatory training.
  • Ensuring staff understand and comply with SILC’s policies and procedures relevant to their role. • Maintaining and championing safe working practices and associated safety registers.
  • Ensuring staff complete Shift Notes and Incident Reports compliant with SILC reporting requirements and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of a SIL house including recording resident data reports, housekeeping, facilities maintenance, food preparation and routine implementation.
  • Representing the NDIS principles of inclusion and sustainability by ensuring that behaviour support plans, participant goals, activity plans, functional community access programs are active and relevant.
  • Managing budgets and reconciling household accounts in line with house systems and protocols.
  • Appropriately escalating house or staffing matters with SILC and families of residents.
  • Attending and participating actively in Co-operative Board meetings, SILC House Representative forums and other learning forums.
