Circle Green Community Legal (Circle Green) is a community legal centre in Western Australia providing state-wide specialist legal services in employment, workplace discrimination, residential tenancy law, family and domestic violence, and humanitarian services aimed at assisting people who are otherwise disadvantaged in their access to legal services.

Our Purpose is to create a system, place, and space to ensure a safety net of best practice legal advice, education, and advocacy in our specialist fields.

We are the first to achieve a merger of specialist, statewide, not for profit legal practices in Australia. We are now in an exciting position where we can offer people in Western Australia specialist legal services in the areas of employment, tenancy and humanitarian in one organisation.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking part-time Advocates in our Tenancy team.

Advocates deliver high-quality, client centred supervised legal advice to clients, and work with them to understand their legal issues and rights. Advocates work closely with the supervising lawyers and other team members delivering legal and support services, including cultural support, to provide clients with trauma-informed, effective, and streamlined services.

You may be an ongoing point of contact and liaison for existing clients, providing information, further advice, and assisting with arrangements for further service delivery.

The Tenancy team at Circle Green Community Legal provides quality legal services to residential tenants across Western Australia that includes a state-wide telephone advice service, further assistance and casework, and duty advocacy service at the Perth Magistrates Court. As the Central Resource Unit of the Tenant Advice and Education Services program, we deliver community legal education and professional development activities for lawyers and tenancy advocates, and lead law reform on behalf of the WA Tenancy Network.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking passionate, confident individuals who enjoys a challenge and interested in making a difference to the lives of the people we work with. The ideal person would have:

  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to human rights and social justice issues.
  • Demonstrated capacity to interpret and apply legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and convey complex details to people from diverse social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Genuine interest in the relevant area of law.
  • Working towards a law degree (desirable).
