ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an unrestricted Lawyer to be placed in the Workplace team. Lawyers will be involved in the delivery and supervision of our employment and workplace discrimination law services including telephone advice, in-house appointments, case work, representation, community legal education and law reform.

Lawyers will work closely with the supervising lawyers and other team members delivering legal and support services to provide clients with trauma-informed, effective, and streamlined services. A client-centred approach and a commitment to ensuring high-quality services are provided to vulnerable people are essential.

The Workplace team provides legal assistance services to vulnerable and disadvantaged non-unionised WA workers on all aspects of employment and workplace discrimination law, including dismissal, wage theft, bullying, discrimination, and sexual harassment.

The role presents an exciting and unique opportunity to work for a specialist not-for-profit legal practice and make a real difference to the community!

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Legal supervision. Supervise and train restricted lawyers, graduates, advocates, secondees and volunteers.
  • Supervise Intake and Triage team on rotation with other lawyers.
  • Review triage, overview new client assessments, monitor client intake process.
  • Client Work. Provide legal advice and casework services, including complex cases, litigation, and court advocacy.
  • May be an ongoing point of contact and liaison for existing clients providing information and assisting with arrangements for further service delivery.
  • Research legal problems and options.
  • Strategic Legal Review and Advocacy. Ensure appropriate compliance with guidelines and policies.
  • Supervised by the Principal Lawyer, contribute to law reform and policy change.
  • Liaise with Community Legal Centres and other organisations providing complementary services.
  • Develop and promote community legal education initiatives.
  • Develop specialised community legal education resources, including fact sheets.
  • Implement Circle Green’s policies and procedures and act in accordance with the organisation’s mission and values.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking an experienced employment lawyer aligned with our values and is interested to make a difference to the lives of the people we work with.

The suitable candidate will have:

Credentials:

  • Law degree.
  • Admitted, or eligible for admission, as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and hold an unrestricted WA practising certificate.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience supervising and mentoring junior legal staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and convey complex concepts to people from diverse social, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Ability to effectively time manage a high and diverse workload.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be an effective team member.
  • Demonstrated commitment to human rights and social justice issues.
