Climate Friendly has delivered over 20Mt in carbon abatement as at the end of 2020. Our immediate mission is to establish partnerships, by 2025, that will store or reduce 150Mt of CO2-e, while repairing nature and supporting reconciliation. The role

As GIS Technician you will work as part of team to deliver GIS solutions for a portfolio of existing and developing carbon farming projects. The position will support the ongoing development, improvement and production of quality spatial information through the GIS systems and related processes and standards, including the preparation of spatial data (including landcover classification and monitoring) for feasibility assessments and reporting to external parties, and processing field imagery, including drone imagery, for use in spatial analysis.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing multi-band image vegetation classifications accurately, efficiently and according to priority
  • Maintaining tracking of the production of the suite of GIS products required across the project cycle
  • Supporting the improvement of processes for the suite of GIS products required across the project cycle
  • Maintaining a good working relationship with Climate Friendly business units to ensure delivery schedules are understood and priorities communicated.
  • Assisting in the development of a best practice data management system that improves efficiency of spatial data storage and provides live inter-linkages with other data sources.
  • Providing training and technical support with respect to GIS for internal customers and users.

About you

  • Graduate of forestry or science, with a GIS major or specialisation being highly advantageous
  • Good working knowledge of a range of spatial information systems and analytical tools (including QGIS as a minimum) and ability to expand knowledge rapidly
  • Exposure to PostGIS for implementing queries in spatial SQL
  • Demonstrated ability (on any platform) to use scripting for automated workflow(s)
  • Good working knowledge of supervised image classification techniques
  • Highly organised with the ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to work in a small team and contribute to group problem solving
  • Understanding of the Emissions Reduction Fund methods and data requirements is highly desirable
  • Availaibility for immediate start highly desirable
