Community Mental Health Australia (CMHA) is seeking two Administration Officers to support the activities and projects of CMHA, including the Assisting Communities through Direct Connection (ACDC) Project and Disability Representative Organisation (DRO) Project

The applicants will have demonstrated experience with administration; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to ‘innovatively think on their feet and outside the box’; multi-task priorities with exceptional planning and organisational skills; and a high level of self-motivation and attention to detail. You need to be able to work independently and contribute to the CMHA team.

About CMHA

Community Mental Health Australia (CMHA) is a Federated Peak representing the Community Managed Mental Health Sector, governed by a Board of Directors. CMHA embodies member State and Territory Peaks, which in turn represent over a thousand community managed organisations.

CMHA was established to provide national strategic advocacy and influence on mental health policy and progressive future directions by influencing and providing strategic advocacy to Federal Government Ministers, Government Department decision makers and community stakeholders.

CMHA is governed by a Board of Directors comprising representatives from the state and territory member Peaks and independent board members.

About the ACDC Project

CMHA is in receipt of an Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) grant from the Commonwealth Department of Social Services (DSS). ILC is about ensuring communities become more accessible and inclusive of people living with a disability.

The ACDC Project is part of the ILC program. The national project is a community initiative, with CMHA building innovative ways to increase the independence, social and community participation of people who live with a psychosocial disability to access services and supports. About the Disability Representative Organisation (DRO) – Making Rights Real Project

CMHA is in receipt of a Department of Social Services Grant for DRO organisations. The DRO program is about ensuring communities become more accessible and inclusive of people living with a disability. The purpose of the Grant is to provide systemic advocacy for Australians with disability.

Systemic advocacy seeks to remove systemic barriers and address discrimination to ensure the rights and freedoms of Australians with disability are maintained, promoted and valued. The funding will enable organisations to promote an understanding of the lived experiences of people with disability, promote and advocate for the rights and dignity of people with disability, and foster support for the participation of people with disability in aspects of community life.

The Grant is being provided as part of the Disability Representative Organisations program.

Key responsibilities

The Administration Officer will provide administrative support to the CEO and the respective Project leadership team to assist with the activities of the ACDC or DRO Project, including:

  • Support of the project team through the provision of a variety of operational and project administrative tasks
  • Manage required financial tasks and other data entry, order of supplies and resources, and distribution of resources
  • Secretariat support for Committee meetings and Working Groups.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders in support of the respective Project
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of the project
  • Perform all tasks with professionalism, sensitivity, confidentiality and work calmly under pressure
  • Abide by the Code of Conduct, policies and procedures, work health and safety and other legal requirements and contribute to a safe, healthy and efficient work environment.

Essential Criteria

  • Secretariat experience. Including minute taking, preparing and disseminating agendas.
  • Administration and organisation. Experience with general administration, including organising electronic file systems, monthly financial reconciliations, data entry, travel arrangements, logistics, strong IT skills
  • Professional relationships. Demonstrated experience and skills in liaison and maintaining good relationships with a wide range of organisations and stakeholders, including an ability to adapt to the changing needs of an organisation, stakeholder and community expectations
  • Valuing diverse communities and contributions. Demonstrated understanding and valuing of the contemporary roles of people with lived experience of mental illness, their families and carers in the mental health sector
  • Relevant qualifications. Relevant certificate IV level qualifications in administration, communications or related field. An equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Information Technology. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MsTeams)
  • Project-based approach. Experience working in a project-based approach with capacity to support multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Time management. Ability to work effectively on tight deadlines, independently, and as part of a team with a hands-on approach and flexibility

These two roles are part-time fixed term position with flexible hours as required. Remuneration is SCHADS Award Level 3.1 – 3.4 hourly rate $37.35 – $ 40.05 + 11.5% superannuation per year and salary sacrifice benefits.
