Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre (CNC) is a vibrant, inclusive and connected Neighbourhood House providing a wide range of programs, social activities and volunteer opportunities that bring people together. We provide the opportunity for people to mix, learn and support one another and strengthen community spirit and connection.

The Centre is in a period of strong growth after relocating to the Canterbury Community Precinct (CCP), a new facility shared with other tenants. CNC acts as lead tenant and is charged with creating a collaborative cohort of tenants delivering services across the community.

As part of the Neighbourhood House team, you'll be providing administrative and customer support services, as well as basic financial and marketing tasks. Also providing front of house services, this role represents the friendly welcoming face of Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre.

You are an organised person who can provide administrative support to Centre members and the CNC team. You have great customer service skills and are community orientated. You like to have some community facing contact and enjoy interacting with community members who utilise the services of Neighbourhood houses. You are also skilled and experienced in all aspects of office administration.

General Tasks

  • Welcome people to the Centre and ensure a warm, friendly professional atmosphere, being pro-active in ensuring that CNC is presented in a positive, professional manner.
  • Develop and administer processes and procedures that ensure the office runs in a cohesive, efficient, and professional manner, overseeing and maintaining the enrolment system (Social Planet), ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Maintain an accurate operational financial management system, managing petty cash, reimbursements, and reconciling payments and other basic office accounting tasks.
  • Support the development and marketing of CNC programs through maintaining the website, producing marketing materials, and contributing to social media content management.
  • Actively ensuring that the Office maintains a warm and welcoming atmosphere, working with the team and volunteers to support the overall management of the Centre.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Relevant qualifications and/or significant demonstrated experience in a community service or similar administration role.
  • Ability to operate both with minimal supervision and as part of a team with sound problem-solving skills and an ability to multitask.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build rapport with members, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Comprehensive skills in Microsoft office suite, and financial management (Xero) software. Knowledge of website and marketing platforms and member management (Social Planet) software are highly desirable.
  • A good understanding of Neighbourhood Houses and Not-for-Profit sectors or similar community not for profit organisations.

This is a part time ongoing role (20 hours a week). There is some flexibility in working days.
