Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre (CNC) is a vibrant, inclusive and connected Neighbourhood House providing a wide range of programs, social activities and volunteer opportunities that bring people together. We provide the opportunity for people to mix, learn and support one another and strengthen community spirit and connection.

The Centre is in a period of strong growth after relocating to the Canterbury Community Precinct (CCP), a new facility shared with other tenants. CNC acts as lead tenant and is charged with creating a collaborative cohort of tenants delivering services across the community.

The Community Engagement Coordinator role includes providing a comprehensive and strategically directed suite of vibrant programs and community activities in keeping with the identified community need and the Centre’s strategic direction.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Community Engagement and Program Development:

  • Implement new and innovative programs and activities in keeping with CNC’s strategic direction and support current core program.
  • Explore activities and potential partnership opportunities that address social needs, build capacity and contribute to program diversity.
  • Conducting regular community consultations, evaluate and report on programs and activities to ensure relevance and value.

Promotion:

  • Elevate CNC’s marketplace presence to increase the visibility and reputation of the Centre, communicating its purpose and role in the community.
  • Establish and maintain a presence in the community, working with other groups to participate in community activities and events that bring people together.
  • Create and maintain a strategic marketing plan and schedules.
  • Support the production of core marketing materials, including social media and website content and scheduling.

Canterbury Community Precinct Community Engagement:

  • Create a cohesive and collaborative environment at the Canterbury Community Precinct, building strong working relationships between co-tenants and key Precinct stakeholders.
  • Undertaking regular community engagement processes to receive ideas and feedback for CCP operations, both from the tenant cohort and the broader community.

Interpersonal:

  • Represent the Centre’s and the Sector’s philosophy and support its vision, aims and values, both publicly
  • Being a forward thinker, engaging creativity and flexibility in programming and problem solving.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications in community engagement and development, social work, or related disciplines and/or an equivalent work history and experience base.
  • Significant knowledge of community engagement practice and demonstrated community engagement skills, including direct experience working collaboratively with community members.
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning and delivery of community led initiatives and recreational programs and events.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build rapport with members, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Comprehensive skills in Microsoft office suite, Website and marketing platforms.
  • A good understanding of Neighbourhood Houses and Not-for-Profit sectors.
  • Excellent written skills including effective grant writing and management, report and submission writing.

This is a part time ongoing role (22-25 hours a week). There is some flexibility in working hours and days.
