The Role:

Our Disability Support Workers are key to what we do and are greatly valued by Coastlink. We are looking for passionate and committed people who have a genuine desire to work with people with a disability. Coastlink is setting up a new accommodation support program based in Gosford CBD in 19 brand new apartments that 19 individuals will call their new home. The state-of-the-art apartments have been built to meet the individual needs of the people moving in, including completely accessible units, ceiling hoists and assistive technology. This program is providing supports to individuals who predominately present with physical support needs within their home environment.

The responsibilities will include:

• Manual handling – Personal Care;
• Provide professional support service to our clients and enable them to meet their life goals and aspirations;
• Contributing to the overall care, health and wellbeing of our clients;
• Supporting social engagement and inclusion within their community;
• Contributing to planning and record keeping;
• Working with people with high physical needs;
• Working as part of a team and displaying a commitment to Coastlink’s core values; and
• Working alongside our clients in a supportive manner that empowers them to achieve their goals.

Key criteria:

• Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency;
• A current NSW Working with Children check;
• A current NSW Drivers Licence;
• A Current First Aid Certificate;
• A National Police Check less than 12 months old (or be willing to apply for one);
• Minimum Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability or the equivalent) or working towards;
• Experience working with people with disability, high physical needs and challenging behaviours;
• A solid understanding and experience with IT equipment and with software programs, data entry, reporting and the use of iPads;
• An ability to work part of and contribute to a new team building a supportive atmosphere that empowers clients in line with Coastlink’s core values;
• A willingness and ability to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends and overnight shift work (both sleepovers and active night shifts);

• A high level of written and verbal communication skills, including knowledge of individualised approaches to care;
• Experience in following correct procedures when dealing with challenging situations; and
• Be willing to participate in training and development opportunities.
