Part Time 15 hours per week for 19 month contract based in Bardon, Brisbane.
As a Peer Support Worker you will
- Draw on your lived experience and provide outreach support alongside participants with complex needs
- Assist participants in their individual recovery and building independence
- Be involved in individual and group work
- Support participants and carers to develop important life skills
About the Recovery and Discovery Centre
Communify’s Recovery and Discovery Centre is a Mental Health Service Hub that provides integrated clinical and non-clinical services for people living with severe and complex mental illness. These supports can be individual or within a group and use a trauma-informed, recovery orientated approach to support goal-setting and working towards independence. The Recovery and Discovery Centre is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team who provide psychosocial supports, clinical care coordination and group psychological therapies and has partnered with a number of organisations to provide integrated care.
About you
Essential criteria
- Mental Health (or equivalent Human Services, Community Services) qualification of Certificate IV level or above
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supporting participants through the key objectives and duties outlined
- Lived experience of your own mental illness and a rich understanding of your own processes of recovery
- A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery
- Experience of group work and confidence to support the facilitation of psychological therapy and psychosocial support groups
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in computer skills, particularly data management systems, word processing skills and Microsoft Outlook management
- Demonstrated ability to contribute as part of a team to provide a safe, equitable and rewarding workplace
Desirable
- Experience and knowledge around strength based, trauma-informed support
- Experience of goal setting and capacity building with participants
- Experience facilitating or supporting the facilitation of groups interactions
Other
- A current open QLD driver’s license and road worthy vehicle, insured to a minimum level covering third party property damage (comprehensive cover is recommended)
- Working with People with a Disability check (or the ability to obtain one) is mandatory
