GENERAL OVERVIEW:

House coordination is a crucial role within a L’Arche Community and as such the person needs to be a good role model for all members of the Community. The Co-ordinator is responsible for the way in which the vision of L’Arche is lived out. Primarily this is about creating opportunities for a rich home and personal life for each of the household members. The House Co-ordinator will develop a deep understanding of each member with disability and therefore be the overall, supervising reference person. The House Co-ordinator is responsible for the household management, implementation of individual programs and team operations. The House Coordinator is also responsible, at the Community level, for supporting the life of the Community and encouraging the participation of household members in this life.

The House Coordinator will liaise closely with the L'Arche Perth Board of Directors in carrying out the role. To enable this to occur, the House Coordinator will meet monthly with the Board of Directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

HOUSE MANAGEMENT:

To schedule, implement and be responsible to ensure that the following are carried out:

  1. Meal planning, shopping and cooking.
  2. Cleaning of the house.
  3. Laundry.
  4. Members with disability individual budgets
  5. Personal hygiene.
  6. Purchase and repair of clothes and other personal belongings.
  7. Driving to appointments and daily related activities.
  8. Weekly meetings of both members with disability and assistants.
  9. Record keeping and household budgeting.
  10. Regular medical, dental, eye appointments.
  11. Maintenance of any vehicle assigned to the house
  12. To provide times of prayer and opportunities to attend church services for those who choose to participate.
  13. Garden maintenance.
  14. Ensure that the assets of L’Arche Perth are maintained and are in good working order.
  15. Ability to prioritise and meet expected goals, outcomes and deadlines of L’Arche Perth.

REFERENCE PERSON FOR THE CORE MEMBERS (Members with Disability):

  1. To work with in the design, implementation and review of members with disability programs, i.e. daily routines.
  2. To liaise with parents and family members of the members with disability.
  3. To encourage their engagement in activities and relationships in the wider society and to see that a healthy balance exists between Community and outside interests.

LEADING A TEAM OF ASSISTANTS:

  1. To schedule, direct, co-ordinate and supervise the work of each House Assistant within the framework of a team that shares responsibility.
  2. The House Coordinator will provide supervision for each Assistant.
  3. To provide each new Assistant a household orientation. This will include a profile of the individual needs of a Member with Disability.
  4. To plan and conduct weekly team meetings.

COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To support and participate in the general planning and organisation of the life of L’Arche Perth.
  2. To encourage the integration of all members of the household in Community meetings and events.
  3. To welcome visitors to the household and to the Community.
  4. To provide support to the L'Arche Perth Board in specific tasks as requested.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  1. To participate in professional development programs, meetings and supervision as requested.
  2. To keep abreast of current developments and literature in the disability field.
  3. To keep abreast of current L’Arche literature and developments.
  4. To engage in reviews of Live-in Assistants at 3 months and prior to 12 months.
  5. To undertake the review of Live-out Assistants each 12 months.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Work Health and Safety:

Work Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility and as such you are required to work in a safe manner in accordance with the current legislation relating to work, health and safety. It is important that you report any matters that you consider are not in keeping with a safe work place to the L'Arche Perth Board of Directors.

First Aid Certificate

A requirement of this position is that you maintain a current First Aid and CPR qualification authorised by a recognised training organisation.
