ABOUT CHIA NSW

The Community Housing Industry Association (CHIA NSW) is the peak body for community housing providers in NSW. We represent nearly 100 members across the State, who collectively own and/or manage around 51,000 properties - the largest community housing sector in Australia.

CHIA NSW works with its members to build a sustainable and growing community housing sector that is focused on delivering great outcomes for our tenants and the communities in which they live.

Our members provide social and affordable housing to individuals and families throughout NSW.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Communications Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the output of CHIA NSW’s communications and marketing material, working in close conjunction with the Media and Communications Adviser.

The Assistant will also play a key role in assisting with the development of e-bulletins and social media material, working closely with members.

The tasks and responsibilities of the role may vary to reflect the current work of the organisation.

This role sits within the Policy and Communications Team and the Assistant will work closely with team-members and attend weekly team meetings.

This is a part-time (2.5 days per week), permanent appointment, based in Sydney with flexible working arrangements available.

You have a clear desire to work with an organisation that seeks to improve the lives of people in housing stress in the community. Like us, you believe that safe, secure, and affordable housing is a fundamental right.

Essential criteria

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, media, or similar field or have equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to write for a range of different purposes, communication channels, and audiences
  • Willingness to build an understanding of the role of communications in a member-based organisation
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with colleagues from various departments and CHIA NSW members
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work in a fluid environment
  • Close alignment with the purpose and values of CHIA NSW and its members.

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience working in a role based in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, media, or similar field
  • Previous experience in a not-for-profit or community services organisation
  • Proficiency with digital design and upholding brand and style guides.
