Community First Step (CFS) has an exciting position for a motivated and experienced School Readiness Officer.

CFS is a growing organisation that provides children, youth and family services in the form of community development, case work, psychosocial and educational programs, disability services and children's services based in the South-West Sydney.

With a history that spans over 50 years, our purpose is empowering the people of South-West Sydney to overcome disadvantage and barriers to personal, social and economic growth by delivering inclusive and innovative services and supporting capacity building.

This role requires a proactive, committed practitioner with extensive experience in community sector. You are willing to adapt and be flexible to ensure your role has maximum impact within the organisation.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer via CFS’ Manager, Community Services, the primary objective of the School Readiness Officer (SRO) is to work closely with children aged 4 to 6 years and their families to facilitate the school readiness program developed by CFS, Big School, Big Minds.

The SRO will be responsible for delivering quality early childhood and parent education within a strengths-based context that is sensitive to the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse communities. They will work with local service providers, schools, preschools and other community leaders to ensure that vulnerable children aged 4-6 years and their families in South-West Sydney are prepared for a smooth transition to school.

About you:

You will bring to this role a strong background in community services, particularly in early childhood services.

  • Relevant qualification.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a related field.
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • A high level of communication skills with the capacity to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • The ability to work autonomously.

This is a part-time (15.2 hours per week) position for 12 months. Salary is as per the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Industry Award, $82,043 per annum pro rata, plus super and NFP salary packaging.
