The organisation

Financial Rights Legal Centre (Financial Rights) is a community based legal centre based in Surry Hills NSW specialising in helping consumers of financial services, particularly credit, banking, insurance and debt. Since 2018, we've been proud to operate Mob Strong Debt Help, a groundbreaking, free nationwide legal advice and financial counselling program tailored for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The role

This is a full time 2-year fixed term contract. As Director of Mob Strong, you'll lead a team of 5-10 professionals, including solicitors and financial counsellors, in providing crucial support to vulnerable First Nations communities facing financial challenges. Your strategic leadership will not only ensure that Mob Strong Debt Help delivers accessible and effective services but also drives systemic change to benefit our communities.

As the Director of Mob Strong you will be responsible for building the leadership capabilities of our Mob Strong Debt Help team, in particular building the capability of our First Nations leaders through mentoring, practical coaching and reflective practice.

This position is open to both First Nations and non-First Nations leaders. If the successful candidate is not a First Nations person, they will be responsible for building Mob Strong's capability with both existing and new resources. The goal is to ensure that the Director of Mob Strong can be filled by a First Nations individual by the end of the two-year fixed term. This will ensure that the service can be fully First Nations-led and self-determining.

The centre operates a hybrid working mode. For further details on the role please see the job description attached or click here: Position-Description-Director-of-Mob-Strong.pdf.
