About Mob Strong Debt Help

Since 2018, Financial Rights has been proudly operating Mob Strong Debt Help (“Mob Strong”). Mob Strong is a free nationwide legal advice and financial counselling program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We specialise in helping individuals manage debts from consumer loans (such as credit cards, pay day loans and car loans), banking, debt recovery and insurance (including car, home, travel, life and funeral) in a culturally safe manner. Our advocacy work aims to reform laws, systems and practices to promote financial well-being within the community.

About Financial Rights Legal Centre

Financial Rights Legal Centre (Financial Rights) is a community based legal centre in Surry Hills specialising in financial services, particularly credit, banking, insurance and debt.

The role

As the Youpla Program Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the Youpla Financial Counselling program. This program forms a critical part of the Enduring Resolution delivered through Service Australia, aimed at supporting individuals affected by the ACBF/Youpla collapse. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the seamless planning, execution, and completion of coordination tasks, ensuring the delivery of culturally safe and reliable information and financial counselling services. We seek someone who:

  • Is Culturally Competent: Demonstrated experience working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and communities.
  • Values Social Justice: Passionate about improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Has Strong Project Management Experience: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise effectively.
  • Possesses Strong Communication skills: Ability to work with diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Has strong attention to detail: Comfortable working with data and proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Is Committed to Continuous Improvement: Actively identifies and implements process enhancements. Committed to delivering high quality results.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the financial counselling or legal assistance sector would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Complies with Public Health Requirements: Including COVID vaccination in accordance with NSW public health orders.
