The Arts Law Centre of Australia is looking for an energetic and motivated General Manager – someone who is deeply motivated by the opportunity to make a profound impact on artists' lives, and with a passion for organising.

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Arts Law is Australia’s only independent national community legal centre for the arts, a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. We provide free or low cost specialised legal advice, education and resources to Australian artists and arts organisations across all art forms, on a wide range of arts related legal and business matters. Arts Law’s Artists in the Black program delivers targeted services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists nationally.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The General Manager's primary role is to provide effective office management and oversee Arts Law's back-office functions, including management of administrative support staff. This includes general financial processing and administrative activities, handling comms and marketing related activities, assisting the CEO with strategic projects, and secretarial duties to support Arts Law's Board.

You must be able to perform basic bookkeeping tasks, be IT literate, and be able to balance competing priorities and stakeholders.

ABOUT YOU

The position requires a confident and detail-focussed administrative whizz, who has experience managing back-office activities in a small and busy organisation. You will bring office management and administration skills, as well as a willingness to maintain a variety of tasks, and be genuinely motivated by the opportunity to support Arts Law's work, and the great team who deliver it!

You will also be a collaborative team player who enjoys working with others, is able to work with limited supervision, leads by example and has understanding of the challenges, importance and issues of a community-based organisation.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Required

  • Experience in senior administrative or management role.
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping, financial record-keeping, and office software systems.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a collaborative and adaptable approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer service mindset.

Preferred

  • Experience with comms/marketing, including social media platforms, website management, or marketing tools is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proven understanding of the challenges, importance and issues of a community-based organisation and, or community legal centres in particular.

  • Strong multitasking skills, able to prioritise tasks efficiently.
  • A team player with a proactive approach to supporting organisational needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible approach to changing tasks and priorities.
  • Team-oriented, with a willingness to contribute across multiple areas and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
