The Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) is the national oncology community bringing together multidisciplinary health professionals across all cancers to advance care and improve outcomes.

Employing seven staff, we are a small, collegiate, efficient and friendly team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Communications Manager will report to the Chief Executive Officer, and work closely with the Operations Manager, Member Engagement Officer, and Project Management team. This role is focused on enhancing and expanding all COSA communication channels with all stakeholders.

As an experienced and passionate communicator, the Communications Manager will be a skilled writer with a keen eye for detail who can distill complex and technical ideas into concise and engaging messages that connect with COSA members and other stakeholders.

The hours are flexible, and the role may require occasional work outside of regular hours and interstate travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Key Focus Area 1: Content Development

  • Website management including content development, maintenance and associated stakeholder management.
  • Oversee the management of all organisation communication, social media and digital properties.
  • Manage and produce publications and newsletters.
  • Develop consistent messaging to ensure all communications are on brand.

Key Focus Area 2: Social and Digital Media

  • Manage COSA’s website including functionality, appearance and optimising performance.
  • Develop and grow COSA’s social media audiences across a number of platforms.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow brand presence in existing and new channels to increase followers and engagement.
  • Lead the development of media to promote COSA events.
  • Working collaboratively with the COSA team and external stakeholders to ensure content across all social media channels align with other communication channels.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communication channels and platforms.

Key Focus Area 3: Member Engagement and Enhancement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including members, media contacts, non-profit and government collaborators.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to engage existing members and to attract new members.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • First class written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong copywriting skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts in an accessible way.
  • Natural ability to produce engaging and inspirational content.
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts in a professional setting.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong proof-reading skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated with the capacity for creative, innovative and dynamic thinking, and an excellent problem solver.
  • Highly computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office and digital platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full working rights in Australia.

Desirable:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Experience using Canva, SproutSocial, Powtoon or similar.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, the not-for-profit sector.
