About the role

As the Media and Communications Manager, you will be a key driver in shaping our organisation's narrative, enhancing our reputation, and positioning us as thought leaders in cerebral palsy. Your strategic vision and storytelling prowess will help us reach new heights in creating awareness, engaging stakeholders, and mobilising support for our world-leading research, advocacy, technology innovation and services.

Responsibilities of the role (not limited to):

  • Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets. Proactively identify media opportunities, draft press releases, and coordinate interviews to secure prominent coverage for our initiatives.
  • Social Media: Manage and oversee all social media channels. Create engaging content that enhances brand visibility.
  • Issues management: Identify risks to CPA's reputation and work with the Executive and agencies to develop issues management plans and pro-active measures to protect the brand
  • Thought Leadership: Identify emerging trends and issues within our sector, positioning our organisation as a go-to source for expert analysis and commentary. Seek speaking engagements, panel discussions, and partnerships to elevate our thought leadership.
  • Strategic Messaging: Develop and implement a cohesive media and thought leadership strategy aligned with our organisational goals. Craft compelling narratives that highlight our impact, values, and vision, ensuring consistency across all communication channels.
  • Metrics and Analysis: Monitor and analyse media coverage, engagement metrics, and audience feedback to refine and enhance our communication strategies. Provide regular reports to leadership on the effectiveness of media and thought leadership initiatives.

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in media relations, journalism, or strategic communications
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills with the ability to distil complex ideas into accessible content
  • Strong network of media contacts and a track record of securing high-profile coverage
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align communication efforts with organisational objectives
  • Proficiency in leveraging digital and social media platforms to amplify messaging
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams
  • Analytical mindset with experience in measuring the impact of media campaigns
  • Innovative and curious - always looking at new and better ways of developing and delivering impactful content
