The Public Service Association (PSA), the principal trade union for South Australian public sector workers, is seeking a communications professional to join its General Secretary’s division.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with skills and experience in journalistic writing and editing to contribute to supporting PSA members and the public sector. 

The role requires a commitment to developing high-quality, targeted written communications, an excellent grasp of the English language, grammar and journalistic writing style, as well as relentless attention to detail.

The Communications Officer (Media and Publications) reports to the Manager, Policy and Strategy, and supports the PSA’s General Secretary’s division through promoting the valuable contribution public sector workers make, advocating for members’ industrial rights and championing the public sector.

Key tasks include:

  • Proof-reading of external communication materials to ensure a consistently high standard
  • Drafting pro-active and reactive media releases
  • Liaising with journalists and responding to media enquiries with media statements in a timely manner
  • Compiling and editing the PSA’s regular magazine, the Public Sector Review
  • Assisting in preparing speeches and other presentations for the General Secretary.

Qualifications in Journalism and previous experience working in a member-based organisation will be highly regarded.

The PSA is willing to consider part-time and full-time options, between 0.8FTE (full-time equivalent) and 1.0FTE. Salary will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
