Are you committed to social justice, criminal justice system reform and strengthening the impacts of the community sector?

CRC is looking for someone to lead an innovative research and advocacy unit and contribute to long-lasting change for our clients and the community. As the Temporary Manager to our Advocacy, Research and Policy Unit, which is an integral part of CRC’s leadership in the criminal justice space in NSW, you will be joining a diverse and passionate team in a flexible and supportive organisation.

The Opportunity

As the Temporary Manager of the Advocacy, Research and Policy Unit you will be responsible for maintaining CRC’s position as an expert voice in the area of criminal justice and building the role of the community sector in the development of advocacy, policy and research related to criminalised populations. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll use your professional experience in research, advocacy and policy to consolidate CRC’s expertise and leadership in the area of criminal justice.
Your role includes:

  • Advocacy: You will advocate for improvements in the provision of services for people leaving prison and their families, and diversionary options for people at risk of justice system involvement, as well as broader justice system reform. Of particular importance will be ensuring that people with lived experience of incarceration are given platforms to share expertise and offer leadership in this space.
  • Research: You will develop CRC’s long-term research strategy, identify relevant research questions and implement our research and evaluation program. You will also oversee CRC’s database, enabling the gathering and analysing of meaningful quantitative and qualitative data to inform and drive our systemic advocacy.
  • Policy: You will contribute regularly to external policy debate and development in areas of relevance to our clients’ lives, as well as the criminal justice system in general. You will ensure that CRC's internal programs and policies are informed by the lived experience of our clients and based on evidence-based, good-practice models.

Your usual work hours will be Monday to Friday, with occasional out-of-hours work, as required.

To join us, you’ll need:

  • A post-graduate qualification in a relevant area
  • Demonstrated capacity to oversee rigorous and relevant qualitative and quantitative research and analysis
  • Ability to develop policy that reflects and responds to on-the-ground practice issues
  • Demonstrated effective team management, including the ability to develop/mentor staff through internal and external training
  • Understanding of and capacity to relate to people from a diverse range of social and cultural backgrounds, including those with complex needs and a history of incarceration
  • Demonstrated organisational and time-management skills, and the capacity to deliver high-quality outputs to tight deadlines
  • The unrestricted right to work in Australia
