The Organisation

The Collieries' Staff and Officials Association (CSOA) is a division of Professionals Australia (formerly APESMA) and represents staff employed in the coal mining industry. CSOA makes a positive difference in members’ workplaces ensuring workers are remunerated and treated fairly during these times of significant change.

The Role

With the quickly changing needs of members front of mind, you will drive and increase the influence of workers across all site locations. As part of a small and skilled team of organisers and lawyers, you will work across interlinked industrial, legal and organising strategies. The role will ideally be based in Brisbane or Sydney, however regional resources hubs like Mackay (Qld) will be considered.

Specifically, you will:

  • Implement workplace campaigns and negotiations.
  • Develop campaigns to empower workers.
  • Travel across NSW & QLD regularly to conduct key collective bargaining.
  • Recruit and grow membership.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder relations.

Skills Required

You will have the skills and initiative to implement campaigns and coordinate work with your colleagues to achieve targeted outcomes. This position would be highly suited to candidates experienced in industrial relations who bring a high level of enthusiasm and initiative. You have a demonstrated ability to:

  • Negotiate successful outcomes and drive bargaining agreements.
  • Implement legal, industrial campaigns and organising strategies.
  • Advocate, negotiate and apply influential leadership skills.
  • Offer working knowledge of contemporary employment issues.
  • Work collaboratively within a dynamic small knit team.
