About the Role

You will lead the Sustainability Programs team to develop Council’s community-facing environmental sustainability programs, implementing projects and initiatives within Council’s sustainability strategies, and supporting other sustainability and environment initiatives, including climate mitigation and adaptation.

You will work with other teams and the community to identify partnership opportunities for innovative projects and trials, support strategies and collaborate across Council and with external groups to embed sustainability and environmental actions, and help to shape engaging programs and education campaigns for, and with, the Darebin community.

• Support the team to develop sustainability programs and initiatives for the community
• Collaborate with teams across Council to achieve sustainability and climate goals
• Partner with community groups to support community-led initiatives
• Build relationships with external organisations to deliver shared outcomes for the environment
• Help shape the future of Darebin through identifying new opportunities, initiatives and trialling projects

Skills and Experience

• A tertiary qualification in environmental management/science, sustainability, waste management or a related field, and/or equivalent experience in these or related fields
• Experience leading a team, including project management support, report writing and budget experience
• Demonstrated understanding of current environmental sustainability issues, specifically waste minimisation, circular economies, sustainable food and water
• Experience in developing community-facing and organisational programs, projects and initiatives
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work with a wide variety of people across all levels of management
