Disability Leadership Projects Coodinator - Alice Springs

The Projects Coordinator will lead a small team, working across Central Australia and the Barkly to:

  • Work with other stakeholders to create self-advocacy and skill-based training opportunities for people with a disability in central Australia and the Barkly area
  • Assist people with a disability and/or families and carers to make contributions to DAS, the disability sector and the broader community
  • Facilitate connections with local media and policy makers to promote and advocate for heightened voice and views of people with a disability
  • Deliver training and mentoring support to people with a disability
  • Mentor people with a disability to participate in policy work
  • Organise, facilitate and document consultations on key issues

The role is responsible for finalising and monitoring project plans and ensuring projects are delivered and acquitted in accordance with the Work Plans and deliverables contained in the service agreements.

Regular travel involving 2-3 night stays in Darwin and Tennant Creek may be required.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be assessed and short-listed for interview for their suitability to this position against the following:

Essential:

  • Hold tertiary qualifications, relevant to the position which may include: disability, community development or health related studies, social work or educational qualifications. OR
  • Significant experience in the field of disability, human rights, community development or social justice sectors
  • Project Management experience and sound organisational, project planning, reporting and time management skills.
  • Well-developed communication skills, including the ability to successfully negotiate with, and influence, diverse groups and to communicate complex issues in plain language
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative trusted relationships with stakeholders from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
  • Experience in planning, conducting and documenting consultations processes for people with a disability
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a small team and contribute to the effective operation of that team to achieve desired outcomes
  • Well developed facilitation skills

Desirable

  • Experience in a training environment with an ability to develop and deliver training modules in conjunction with people with disabilities
  • A high level of interpersonal skills, particularly in the areas of negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Sound working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs and experience in the use of a client database.
  • Basic knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
  • Current N.T. ‘C’ class driver’s licence.
