Applications are invited for the ongoing part-time role of Community Organiser & Constituent Liaison (EOA) to the Office of Senator David Shoebridge. This role is based in Sydney, NSW.

The Campaigns and Community Organiser works with communities across NSW on issues that are important to them. The organiser engages & empowers communities of interest and coordinates the Senator's presence in the local community. The position also has primary responsibility for constituent liaison including ensuring timely responses to the large volume of correspondence received by the office

The key responsibilities of the position are, but not limited to:

  • Work with the Office Manager on constituent work including responding to incoming correspondence from constituents
  • Building and maintaining relationships and communication with local communities, community groups and local organisations across NSW.
  • Ensuring the voices of these groups are represented in Parliament, and assistance is provided by the office where possible to address systemic issues in access to Government services, justice and identify opportunities for media coverage.
  • Identifying opportunities for, organising and running community and stakeholder events.
  • Attending community events, which may require working on weekends and/or public holidays.
  • Creating opportunities for volunteering, career development and short term work within the Senator’s team to support engaged community members to become involved with the Greens.
  • Proactively pitching ideas to the team including escalating community issues for media, policy and parliamentary action.

Applicants should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Prior experience campaigning and/or working with communities or grassroots organisations including within the Greens.
  • Demonstrated experience in campaigning including developing materials, event management, volunteer recruitment and retention, and community organising
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, under time constraints and strict deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a wide cross section of individuals and organisations.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Australian Greens’ policies and major issues.

The following qualities are desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience using graphic design software (such as Canva, InDesign and/or Adobe suite)
  • Experience working with graphic designers and creating a design brief.
  • Experience working or volunteering on community organising and/or grassroots campaigns
  • Driver’s licence

Employment conditions

This position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023, which include:

  • A commencing salary between $57,132 and $70,969 pro rata, will be negotiated with the successful applicant depending on experience and relevant skills.
  • An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for reasonable additional hours of work.
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

A probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
