Designer Life delivers several employment preparation programs as a Workforce Australia Provider. These programs are tailored to support the needs of each individual and are designed to help participants prepare, apply, secure and maintain meaningful employment.

With many locations across Queensland, including remote and First Nations communities, Designer Life has an established presence across the state. By providing the highest level of client care, we’re able to support disadvantaged communities in their effort to increase employment opportunities for First Nations Australians, early school leavers, the long term unemployed and other disadvantaged members of the community.

Position Purpose

As a Career Coach, you will be an integral member of our Workforce Australia team with a focus on supporting your participants in employment, training and development opportunities and being responsible for the daily management of your allocated caseload, meeting the required KPI’s, ensuring successful delivery of the WFA contract, while working within a team at your allocated site.

This role is ideal for someone who loves working towards shared goals, who demonstrates a passion to help people achieve real outcomes and overcome barriers, working closely with our participants to support them into gaining meaningful employment. You will create tailored plans to meet their individual needs, while guiding and supporting clients to improve their capacity to work or connect them into suitable activities which align with their career goals and the overall performance of Designer Life.

Key Responsibilities and contribution:

  • Manage a caseload of participants from varied backgrounds, building rapport to understand their goals and identify barriers to employment. (ie connecting them to social supports such as housing and financial support to support).
  • Conduct varied appointments via phone, face-to-face (initial, contact, engagement, capability) with your allocated caseload of participants to ascertain where they are in in their employment journey.
  • Ensure effective case and diary management, assessment and mandatory case notes are recorded accurately for every contact made to ensure compliance within the Deed, and regularly seeking feedback on activities and referrals.
  • Coordination of vocational activities such as assisted job search, job creation support, referrals/activities.
  • Providing assistance to access community support services including emergency support (housing, food etc).
  • Marketing participants into targeted areas of employment by assessing labour market trends and growth opportunities.
  • Monitor workplace participation for all participants placed into employment by ensuring hours are maintained, specific work tasks are being satisfactorily performed and liaising with the employer to assess overall job requirements are met.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and building rapport with employers to create employment opportunities and pathways into employment for our participants.
  • Work in collaboration with the Business Development team to provide on the job/early intervention responses, carrying out the supports identified at job placement in the PPS plan.

  • Demonstrated resilience and ability to thrive in a fast paced yet fulfilling environment and enjoy navigating through unexpected challenges.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of employment services, or a related field (Industry experience preferred).
  • Enthusiasm to be a part of our shared goals, performance and outcomes.
  • Proficiency in utilising software systems including but not limited to Outlook, Teams, WFA, JRL.
  • Time-management skills and ability to make decisions and, at times, support crisis management in a stepped care methodological approach.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively build constructive relationships with a diverse range of people and cultures.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure (and able to keep up with the changing needs of the contract/business).
  • Integrity, honesty and trustworthiness.
  • Problem solving skills and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to pass police check (obtain working with children check if required).
  • Right to Work in Australia.
