Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Psychologist to join our team at Diabetes Victoria's new Clinic in Carlton. In this part-time role, you will provide specialised psychological support (in person or via telehealth) to adults living with diabetes, helping them navigate the emotional and psychological challenges associated with their condition. Your expertise in mental health and diabetes management will contribute significantly to improving the overall well-being of our clients. There will be opportunity to provide information and education to people living with diabetes and their families by contributing to Diabetes Victoria’s publications.
Role Criteria
- At least 3 to 5 years’ experience working as a psychologist in a medical or healthcare setting
- Medicare Provider Eligibility
- Excellent knowledge of mental health principles and evidence-based therapies
- Strong understanding of diabetes management strategies and its impact on mental well-being
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Empathy, compassion, and the ability to establish rapport with patients from diverse backgrounds
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively
- Demonstrated experience in health writing
- Current Working with Children Clearance
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology from an accredited university.
- Master's degree or higher in Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology or Counselling Psychology preferred.
- Registration as a Psychologist under AHPRA is essential for this role.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualised psychological assessment for adults with diabetes.
- Develop tailored treatment plans that address patients' emotional needs related to their diabetes.
- Conduct evidence-based interventions such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), or mindfulness-based techniques.
- Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals within the clinic (and externally where necessary) to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Monitor patient progress through regular follow-up sessions and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in compliance with professional standards and regulations.
- Stay updated on current research findings related to psychology in diabetes management and meet the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements for psychologists as set out by AHPRA.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and Code of Ethics for psychologists.
