About the Role

The Behaviour Support Practitioner role will design, deliver, monitor, and evaluate positive behaviour support plans and services to children, young people and adults with a disability in line with the goals of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan or individual goals.  This position is unique as it will be managed and supported by Doncare but will also be part of a broader team partnered with EACH.

About You 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of positive behaviour support assessment and service delivery to a wide range of people with a variety of disabilities.
  • Has extensive knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support principles including functional behaviour assessment, intervention and service delivery practices, and Restrictive Practice Authorisation processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders including individuals, families, Local Area Coordinators, NDIA, the Office of the Public Advocate, Office of Profession Practice other government agencies and specialist support services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants, their families, carers, and other staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with a broad range of individuals with complex needs and with people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, kinship carers and grandparents, and LGBTIQA+. 
  • Ability to apply evidence-informed practice to optimise outcomes. 
  • An ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills along with the ability to translate complex ideas into easy to understand information. 
  • Ability to translate complex plans into easy to understand training sessions for relevant cohorts.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and databases.
  • Understanding and commitment to teamwork, a community-based agency and volunteerism.

Mandatory:

Applicants must meet the following job requirements:

  • Qualification in Psychology, Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathology, Nursing, Social or Health Sciences or equivalent. 
  • Two years demonstrated experience in disability, mental health and/or early childhood.
  • Minimum skills and knowledge at core practitioner level as defined in the NDIS capability Framework. 

Desirable:

A minimum of one year in a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner position.
