Down Syndrome Australia and Good Things Australia are working on a project called the Digital Champions Program.
This project will help community organisations help keep people safe online.
A group of Digital Champions will work on the project.
The Digital Champions will be a group of 10 people with an intellectual disability.
The Digital Champions program will train people with disability to be Champions.
They will help teach their friends and local groups to:
Our Digital Champions will learn about the internet and how to connect with others online.
Then, they will share what they know with community groups across the country.
They will do training sessions in person and online.
The Digital Champion will also have a chance to develop new skills.
Digital Champions is led by Down Syndrome Australia. But the members do not have to have Down syndrome.
A Digital Champion will:
Digital Champions will also attend meetings.
Meetings may be 2 hours long. Some meetings will be 1 hour 30 minutes.
In between meetings you will need to do some work to get ready for the next meeting.
This work may be 30 minutes to 1 hour.
To be a Digital Champion you must:
You can ask your support person to help you join meetings if you need.
You must be able to join the online meetings every 2 weeks.
You have an interest in helping community organisations keep people safe online.
There will be different people in the Digital Champions Group.
Some people will have more experience. They can help others in the group.
Some people will not have any experience. They have not been in a group before.
We want lots of different people in the group. This includes people who:
Down Syndrome Australia will pay you as a casual worker.
This means you get paid for the hours you work.
You will be paid an Award rate called Social and Community Service Award Level 1, Pay Point 1.
The Digital Champions will meet once every 2 weeks.
The meeting will be from 1pm to 3pm.
We are the National peak organisation for people with Down syndrome and their families.
People with Down syndrome are at the centre of all the work we do.
We want to make sure people understand the experiences of people with Down syndrome and their families.
We use the United Nations Convention on the Right of Persons with Disabilities to guide our work.
The Convention tells us about the rights of people with disabilities.
