Position Overview

The eLearning Developer will support Down Syndrome Australia’s (DSA) communications work including the development of podcasts and webinars for the Centre of Excellence in Disability and Health (the Centre) of which DSA is a Consortium Partner. The role will also develop new and compelling podcasts, webinars, videos and online learning showcasing the work of Down Syndrome Australia and its member organisations.

The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health is a new major initiative supported by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care, commencing in 2023. The Centre is led by UNSW Sydney (Medicine and Health) together with a consortium which includes Down Syndrome Australia. The Centre’s purpose is to improve the health of people with Intellectual Disability. This role will be responsible for supporting the development of podcasts, webinars and other content to build the capacity of healthcare professionals and people with intellectual disability.

Down Syndrome Australia ensures that people with Down syndrome are at the centre of all of the work that we do. We work with our member and partner organisations to provide information and support services to people with Down syndrome across Australia. Our information is produced in many accessible formats including video, podcast, online learning and webinar formats. This role will be responsible for supporting and developing this content for DSA.

Position responsibilities

  • Produce dynamic original video, podcast, online learning and webinar content, in accessible formats, including associated promotional materials for healthcare professionals and other audiences
  • Collaborate with people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disability, DSA staff, member organisations and Centre for Excellence Consortium partners
  • Draft scripts and develop story ideas in partnership with DSA staff, people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disability and other stakeholders
  • Manage technical aspects of production including the identification of suitable platforms and the development and maintenance of processes to support the content produced
  • Analyse metrics to inform content development, evaluate content outcomes and complete project reporting
  • Work collaboratively with the Centre and DSA’s communications team and contribute to other communications activities.

Selection Criteria

  • A well-developed understanding of the requirements to produce successfully deliver engaging educational content online to a range of audiences
  • Commitment to inclusion of people with disabilities within the community and an understanding of the social model of disability.
  • Understanding of accessibility and ability to develop accessible content
  • Ability to work effectively with people with an intellectual disability
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage stakeholder relationships
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed organisational skills and experience in coordination of projects or similar initiatives.

Desirable

  • Relevant formal qualification in communications, journalism, disability or health
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of the principles and practices of professional development/adult learning
  • Demonstrated skills in planning and executing the successful delivery of a professional development product
  • Experience working on a non-for-profit or similar environment
  • Prior project management experience running multimedia projects
  • Lived experience of Down syndrome or other intellectual disability

Work Environment

This position can be a work from home role from anywhere in Australia, or may be based in an office environment (if desired). The nature of this role and its responsibilities deems that occasionally some work will be required outside normal business hours. Some interstate travel will be required. The successful applicant will initially be employed for a probationary period of six months.

Acceptance of the position involves a willingness to work within the philosophies and policy directions of Down Syndrome Australia. The successful applicant will be required to undergo satisfactory pre-employment checks including professional referees, completion of a satisfactory police records check and working with children check.
