You will be employed on a casual basis this means you will be paid for the hours you work.
You will be paid an Award rate called Social and Community Service Award Level 2, Pay Point 1
The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health or The Centre is a new program.
The Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care is giving money to The Centre.
The Centre is led by University of NSW Sydney (Medicine and Health).
The Centre’s purpose is to improve the health of people with intellectual disability.
The Centre opened in October 2023.
The University of NSW Sydney work together with a group of other organisations called a consortium which includes Down Syndrome Australia.
The Learn and Lead Group will be a group of 8-10 people with an intellectual disability.
The Learn and Lead Group will also have a chance to develop new skills.
The Learn and Lead Group is being led by Down Syndrome Australia but the members do not have to have Down syndrome.
The Learn and Lead Group will do two main things:
1. Leadership and Skills Development
You will be able to develop your skills in advocacy and participation.
This might be things like:
Attend leadership training
Learn about public speaking
Develop presentation skills
You will also be able to let us know what skills you would like to develop.
2. Have your say about what happens at The Centre
You will be involved in the work that The Centre does.
This might be things like:

We want lots of different people on the group, including people who:
The Learn and Lead Group will include a mix people.
Some people will have experience and will be mentors.
Some people won’t have any experience.
If you need support to be in the group you will need to have your own Support Person.
If you need a Support Person but do not have one, please contact us and we might be able to help find one.
We are the National peak organisation for people living with Down syndrome and their families.
People with Down syndrome are at the centre of all the work that we do.
We work with the Down Syndrome Advisory network to get their ideas and suggestions about our work.
We work to create change in social and public policy.
We want to make sure people understand the experiences of people with Down syndrome and their families. All our work is informed by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
We work together with state and territory organisations to achieve our vision.
