About the Role

Drummond Street Services (DS) has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Child and Family Practitioner to join their team. Your primary responsibility will be to provide support and leadership to a transdisciplinary team that focuses on the healthy mental development of children using a whole of family approach, across a number of programs e.g. FMHSS - Family Mental Health Support Service, FaRS – Family & Relationship services, FLS – Family Law Services, & IFS – Integrated Family Services.

You will be supporting the Team Leader Family Services – Western Region, in providing and utilising  your experience in counselling with families, as well as providing supervision and coaching to multidisciplinary team members.

About You

DS is looking for a senior practitioner with a background in working with families. Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Family Therapy, Case Work, Counselling, Psychology or similar will be essential. Experience in counselling is integral to this role, as well as confidence in seminar and / or group facilitation. Training in groupwork would also be an advantage e.g. Bringing Up Great Kids, Tuning into Teens, Circle of Security etc.

  • Due to the nature of the role, it’s important you are well versed in managing your time across a variety of responsibilities, encompassing both practice delivery and supervision. You’ll also be skilled in adapting to different environments, innovative approaches ensuring your ability to meet the needs of individual practitioners while also keeping in mind the developmental needs of the team and organisation as a whole.
  • Good skills in working within community networks and promoting our service and programs.
  • Acting as a mentor for your team, you'll motivate Practitioners to perform to the highest standard while providing them with the support needed to flourish in their roles. Your capacity to inspire and engage staff in completing complex work will ensure your success, as well as that of the team.
  • Excellent understanding risk management and safety planning, as well as training (MARAM) would be an advantage.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Family Therapy or Psychology and further training in relation to family work.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the family services and / or mental health sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience (and training) supervising and developing multidisciplinary staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of a range of therapeutic approaches for individuals, couples, families and specifically children and young people.
  • Demonstrated experience with providing counselling and case work that supports children and families with multiple and complex needs such as mental health, family violence and substance abuse issues.
  • Demonstrated high level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and organisational skills including the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise work tasks.
