Resulting from a successful Play Well Participation Grant submission, Disability Sports Australia is recruiting for an exciting role that will strengthen the organisations presence, influence and visibility Nationally.

The Communications Lead will play a crucial role in strengthening the organisation’s presence, influence, and visibility Nationally.

This individual will be responsible for setting the overall communications strategy and ensuring that all marketing activities align with the organisation’s mission and values.

The goal is to create a strong brand identity that resonates with stakeholders and the broader community, ultimately advancing the organisation’s objectives and enhancing its reputation.

Additionally, this individual will be directly responsible for overseeing the implementation of a National disability sport awareness campaign and overseeing the development of a new accessible website as part of a Federal Government funded project.

Your Key Responsibilities

Communications:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the organisation’s goals and objectives.
  • Initiate and manage various marketing initiatives that drive the visibility of the organisation and showcase its impact on the community.
  • Plan for and gather stories of impact to support communication objectives.
  • Enhance awareness of Disability Sports Australia’s programs.
  • Manage the creation, curation, and distribution of content for the organisation’s quarterly newsletter, ensuring that it aligns with the overall communications strategy and effectively communicates the organisation’s impact.
  • Write, edit, and refine press releases to ensure clear, engaging, and accurate messaging that resonates with the community.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of email marketing campaigns managed through Mailchimp, making data-driven decisions to improve reach and engagement
  • Establish and refine communication processes to enhance marketing efficiency and effectiveness.

Website Development and Maintenance:

  • Oversee the development of a new website in conjunction with the website developer to ensure it meets the organisation’s needs and enhances its online presence.
  • Regularly review and update the website with new content ensuring all information is current accurate and SEO friendly.

Public Awareness:

  • Lead the development and execution of a national awareness campaign to increase the visibility and impact of disability sport.
  • Develop and cultivate PR relationships to achieve coverage and raise awareness.

Characteristics of a suitable candidate:

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to create impactful communication materials, including press releases, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Strong background in marketing and communications ideally with experience in a communications role with some management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of website management and proficiency with various social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with WCAG and other accessibility standards is highly desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
