Resulting from a successful Play Well Participation Grant submission, Disability Sports Australia is recruiting for an exciting role.

The Disability Community Consultation and Research Lead will play a crucial role in embedding co-design and intersectionality principles within the organisation.

This individual will be responsible for establishing and managing a new Disability Advisory Committee, ensuring these principles are effectively integrated to position DSA as a leader in the sports sector.

The goal is to build a compelling business case for the committee’s future, demonstrating its ongoing value and alignment with DSA’s strategic objectives.

Additionally, this individual will develop and implement DSA’s Research Agenda and Plan to enhance DSA’s leadership in the knowledge, understanding, and facilitation of sport for people with disabilities.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Disability Advisory Committee:

  • Establish the Disability Advisory Committee including the development of Terms of Reference (TOR’s), Code of Conduct and other necessary documentation.
  • Oversee the recruitment of and appointment of individuals to the Disability Advisory Committee.
  • Ensure adherence to the Terms of Reference (TORs), Code of Conduct, and other necessary documentation.
  • Maintain consistent and active engagement with DAC members through regular communication, adapting to various accessibility needs.
  • Coordinate advisory committee meetings, including scheduling and preparing minutes and agendas and addressing access requests.

Business Case Development:

  • In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) develop a business case to ensure the ongoing viability of the committee, demonstrating the value of the DAC’s work within the broader objectives of Disability Sports Australia.
  • Work closely with the CEO to ensure that the DAC’s feedback is authentically implemented across the business, where
    appropriate.

Research Agenda and Plan:

  • In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and recommended researchers, develop a Research Agenda and
    Plan by the objectives of Disability Sports Australia and
    considering consultation with the DAC.

Characteristics of a suitable candidate:

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in project management, particularly the development, implementation and reporting/evaluation of advisory committee activities and consultations.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with the disability community and work with people with various disabilities and access needs
  • communication preferences and requirements
  • Proven skills, expertise and experience working within co-design principles – the ability to connect, engage and incorporate co-design consultation feedback on an organisational level.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in public speaking, presentations to groups, chairing meetings and hosting group activities.
  • Strong ability to connect, empathise and communicate with members of the disability community, including recognizing different points of views, lived experiences and opinions
  • Proven capacity to work autonomously, while also as part of a team.
