About this Role

This fun and diverse role is responsible for developing, implementing and administering communications and marketing strategies for Down Syndrome NSW, as well as events management for seminars, workshops, parent networks and social gatherings. This role is also responsible for raising our profile, amplifying our policy and advocacy influence, enhancing our digital strategy and delivering exceptional communications, marketing and events. We are keen to do the everyday well and deliver something exciting and fresh to the not-for-profit space!

This role is work from home, with face-to-face team meetings once a month, plus presence at our events.

Role Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute and administer all communications, including Wordpress website, MailChimp monthly newsletter, development of flyers and collateral, blog, content creation, storytelling, fact sheets, social media, EDMs, marketing brochures, videography, general information materials, promotional materials, templates, forms and more. Lead and love this area!
  • Provide strategic and day to day communications and innovative marketing support across the organisation, injecting your creativity and flair as well as consistency and attention to detail.
  • Lead and implement all communications across our campaigns, programs, projects, policy and advocacy ensuring optimal digital presence.
  • Showcase our organisational impact at both the overarching and program, campaign and government relations levels.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and execute events from initial stage high level planning to detailed execution at the actual event. End to end administration of all events, training, online education workshops, seminars and social events, including setting up booking platforms, website listings, EDM's, run sheets, evaluation.
  • Leverage media contacts to further the vision and mission of Down Syndrome NSW.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for all events and marketing activities.
  • Stakeholder management (internal and external) in relation to each event.
  • Establish clear and empowering internal systems and processes for the team to optimally engage with marketing, communications and events.
  • Provide reports, statistics and trend data in relation to communications, marketing and events with recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Commitment to the principles of participation and inclusion of people with disability.
  • Demonstrated strategic and digital communications, marketing and social media proficiency and success, including newsletters, website editing, videography, blogs, events, EDMs, flyers, posters, resources, toolkits, member stories and media reach.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Wordpress, MailChimp, MyCause and other marketing, communications and events booking platforms, including social media platforms of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.
  • Day to day management and briefing of graphic designer on brand, brand design, logo design, promotional materials, collateral and all brand touchpoints.
  • Demonstrated ability to collate and translate needs from various business units (campaigns, programs, projects, policy and advocacy) and transform them into effective multichannel communications and marketing reach and impact.
  • Acute attention to detail with a passion for systems and processes to drive efficiency, supporting the organisation to interact with communications, marketing and events in effective ways.
  • Highly developed organisational skills, including an ability to plan, set and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines as well as demonstrate flexibility and agility for changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated events management experience from planning to execution and evaluation, including stakeholder management and risk management.
  • Experience in leading systems reform and optimisation across web, CRM and other digital platforms.
  • Experience in a similar role for at least two years.

Desirable criteria

  • Advanced graphic design skills.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Dynamix CRM.
  • Knowledge of and experience in fundraising, campaigns and donations.

  • This position will be working from home to start with, with monthly face to face staff meetings and regular online staff meetings, check ins and support.
  • Our events are mainly online and occur once a week online, with some face-to-face events and campaigns once every 1-2 months that this role is expected to attend.
  • This role has 1 direct report, with scope to expand the team in the medium term predicated upon demonstrated success and ROI working with the CEO to develop the ideal structure and capabilities.
  • Acceptance of the position involves a willingness to work within the philosophies and policy directions of Down Syndrome NSW. The successful applicant will be required to undergo satisfactory pre-employment checks including professional referees, completion of a NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check.
