The newly re-formed position of Financial Wellbeing Coordinator has evolved from our traditional financial counselling model and become so much more. If you are looking for a role that combines a hands on approach to improving the financial literacy and wellbeing of people from all backgrounds and life stages this is the perfect role for you!

Taking your tool kit from your background in financial literacy, financial counselling, social work or youth work, your role will be to engage and empower the students you service and coach and guide them to use the tools to assist with their unique and individual situation. You will provide coaching, guidance and build on the financial capabilities of all Deakin students who present for assistance.

Working within our Student Advocacy and Support Service team and reporting to the Advocacy Manager you will also have an opportunity to mentor and supervise two (2) student interns for 9 months of the year as they conduct intake for the service and t deliver key welfare program initiatives to the broader Deakin student community. You will have the ability to bring your expertise and continue to grow the program and establish community connections that will result in positive solutions for the students you help.

Based in Burwood or Geelong, your responsibilities will include conducting consultations with students across all campuses (face to face and via technology), providing sound advice in response to an individual’s circumstances. You will also be instrumental in community education, service promotion, maintaining key networks around the University and local communities and collaboratively working with your colleagues to ensure our students receive the best outcomes.

This role is permanent part time, with the successful applicant working 26 hours. These hours can be worked across the week as DUSA offers flexibility around working hours and days with at least 2/3 of the week working on campus.

As a successful candidate, you will have highly developed oral and written communication skills with a solid understanding of working with people from diverse backgrounds and complex needs. In addition, you are someone who has a experience in a role providing financial literacy programs or coaching with a Diploma Community Services (Financial Counselling) (preferred) or a relevant tertiary degree.
