Position Overview

• Employment Term: Permanent part-time or 6-month contract.
• Location: Central Office (Brisbane, QLD)
• Remuneration: SCHADS 4 ($43.51 - $46.81 p/hr.) + 11.5% super + shift penalties if applicable.

The role of a Mensline Counsellor is to be the primary point of contact for Queensland callers who identify as male and/or family and friends who are experiencing or using domestic and family violence. You will provide crisis support, information, and guidance.

Your responsibilities include conducting risk assessments to ensure the safety of clients and their families, holding perpetrators accountable, and offering practical assistance such as emergency accommodation and transportation. You will also create referral pathways and maintain accurate records to ensure service users' safety.

Position Requirements

• Completed tertiary qualification in Behavioural Science, Social Work, Human Services, or other relevant fields acceptable by DVConnect.
• Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in social/community services - counselling experience desired.
• Professional experience in assessing indicators of whether a person is using violence or is subjected to violence in their personal relationship. Have demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to this assessment.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act 2012, Domestic Violence Orders and Child Protection Act 1999 (or willingness to obtain).
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the effects, causes and dynamics of domestic and family violence.
• Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and enhance relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including both government and non-government organisations.
• High level of empathy and cultural awareness when engaging with diverse groups; including working towards supportive and culturally safe spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Positive Notice Blue Card and National Police Check, or willingness to obtain before commencing employment.
• Must be available to attend mandatory onboarding training and shadow shifts before commencing permanent roster.
• Valid photo ID.
• Right to work in Australia.
