The VOCCR pilot has commenced across three key in-community locations (Cairns, Logan and Townsville), with two new regions due to be set up by October 2024. The Victims of Community Crime Response (VoCCR) service focuses on addressing current gaps faced by victim-survivors needing immediate practical support after experiencing an interpersonal violent crime.
Our aim is to provide efficient short-term crisis assistance, such as coordinating emergency transport and accommodation and addressing basic needs, such as food, clothing, home safety upgrades and more, within the first 72 hours of the incident. We also provide warm referrals for long-term support, which may involve legal, health, financial, and housing support.
The Response & Connection Practitioner (Virtual) is a crucial role as it is the primary point of contact for victim-survivors seeking specialist support from our Victims of Crime Community Response (VOCCR) service. The Response & Connection Practitioners will provide immediate and trauma-informed support through triage, crisis counselling, case coordination and case management to successfully and safely meet the individual's immediate needs within the first 72 hours after an experience of interpersonal violent crime.
As a Response & Connection Practitioner, your key responsibilities include actioning referrals for eligible victims of crime and their immediate family, delivering immediate assistance following an act of violence, coordinating emergency transport and accommodation, and addressing basic needs such as food, clothing, safety upgrades, and other practical aid.
In addition, you are required to case-manage priority assistance, collaborate with external and internal stakeholders, respond compassionately to victims/survivors, and continually identify ways to improve services. Participation in stakeholder networks and meetings is invaluable, as it supports the delivery of the pilot program and promotes the work of the VoCCR service.
