Welcome to the Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to reducing domestic and family violence (DFV) in the Canberra community since 1988. Our mission is to create a world free from violence and abuse by focusing on prevention, early intervention, response and recovery for those impacted by DFV.

And this is where you come in...

DVCS is seeking a dedicated Family Violence Support Practitioner to join our innovative Room4Change Program in the ACT. In this position, you'll play a critical role in assessing DFV risk and addressing the safety and support needs of people subjected to violence.

What You'll Do:

  • Engage with people subjected to violence and control, by men engaged with DVCS' men's behaviour change program, Room4Change
  • Offer flexible supports over the phone and face to face, including risk assessment, safety planning, case management, case coordination, behaviour mapping, advocacy and referrals
  • Attend case conferences, care team meetings, and interagency meetings to promote an integrated, collaborative approach to supporting families
  • Consider the needs of children and young people affected by DFV and connect them to appropriate supports
  • Contribute to administrative tasks such as booking appointments, completing case notes, and reporting.

Your Strengths:

  • Experience working with people subjected to violence including as a Case Manager, Case Coordinator, Support Worker or Practitioner
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complex dynamics of DFV particularly coercive control
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with a diverse group of clients
  • Passion for making a positive impact and promoting the safety of victim-survivors and their families
  • Openness to feedback and continuous growth and learning.
