The Role

To address domestic and family violence, we need to be able to measure it.

Be part of a new program, being established across three jurisdictions to develop a better understanding of victim survivors’ met and unmet support needs, with the goal of improving the specialist sector and broader system’s capacity to meet those needs and, ultimately, increasing people’s safety.

Delivered over three years, the program includes three critical, interconnected streams of activity:

  • Understanding the reality of service delivery contexts – listening, mapping, and documenting approaches to specialist domestic and family violence service provision across jurisdictions
  • Extracting and analysing existing datasets – uncovering what these can tell us about service accessibility and effectiveness, as well as some of the gaps and disconnections that exist
  • Collective sense-making – drawing together analysis of the quantitative and qualitative data collated, through partnering with service providers and service users to test, refine and contextualise findings and recommendations.

As a senior position within a small, geographically dispersed team, the Evidence and Data Lead will be responsible for designing and conducting evidence building and sense-making activity, including engaging custodians and analysts to extract and analyse existing administrative datasets.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:

  • Research design and delivery – conceiving, designing and implementing ethical, safe and culturally responsive approaches, methods and tools to collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data
  • Consultation and engagement – contributing to the design and implementation of approaches to collaborative knowledge production, sense-making and evidence translation
  • Project management – supporting overall program delivery
  • Leadership – supporting the program’s Director as a senior team member and ‘second in charge’.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • At least five years’ relevant professional experience, including having worked in social research, monitoring and evaluation or another data-focused field
  • Experience delivering complex projects
  • Highly developed interpersonal, relational and collaboration skills
  • Excellent written communication and knowledge translation skills.

You might not have worked within the specialist domestic and family violence sector, but you will be able to demonstrate your capacity to work safely and respectfully in this space, including sensitivity to the subject matter and some awareness of policy and practice principles.
