  • 37.52 - $40.97 p/Hour (subject to experience) + Super + Salary Packaging of up to $18,550

Are you an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person with a passion for supporting others? Do you have lived experience in mental health or caregiving?

As a Carer Peer Worker, you will leverage your lived experience and cultural understanding to support and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander carers.

Your role will involve:

  • Building meaningful relationships with carers and clients, using Intentional Peer Support principles to foster mutual respect and positive goal-setting
  • Enhancing the carer experience and engagement within the YES service model through innovative projects and direct support
  • Engaging with clients to understand their interests, strengths, and connections, helping them to build their support networks and reach their recovery goals
  • Documenting client interactions and progress accurately in EACH’s Client Management System and other required platforms

About the program

EACH is the Lead Agency of the Therapeutic Alliance (TA), a consortium of community based, not-for-profit organizations who provide mental health services across the North Coast of NSW through a multidisciplinary, person centred, hub-and-spoke model of care.

The alliance offers a range of services under the Primary Mental Health Program (PMHP), including Healthy Minds, the Mental Health Nursing Incentive Program, Youth Enhanced Services (YES), Suicide Prevention, Counselling Support, and Low Intensity Mental Health programs.

About you

This is an identified position with a genuine occupational requirement for the position to be filled by a candidate Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community. We encourage applications from these communities, in line with Affirmative Measures under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 and Division 2 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1997 (NSW).

As a proactive and culturally aware individual, you:

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, are recognised by your community, and can provide evidence of your status
  • Have lived experience as a family member or carer dealing with mental distress or illness, with a strong understanding of the mental health system
  • Are committed to person-centred care, cultural safety, and trauma-informed practices
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards change and are dedicated to learning and self-improvement
  • Have experience in direct care, knowledge of relevant legislation, and sensitivity to diverse needs
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work and/or Intentional Peer Support training (highly regarded)
