We are seeking an Indigenous Leader to head our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Capability and Engagement Team. Based along the Eastern Seaboard of Australia, this role will play a crucial part in driving our commitment to fostering meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and enhancing Indigenous capability within our organisation.

  • Full-time with flexibility - ongoing position
  • You may be based at any EACH location along the Eastern Seaboard of Australia, in addition to working within the community, and we support a hybrid working model
  • $140-150K PA + Super + Salary Packaging of up to $18,550
  • This is an Identified Position and only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants

Job Description

As the Indigenous Leader within the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Capability and Engagement Team, your day will involve a mix of strategic planning, relationship-building, cultural advocacy, and leadership to support Indigenous communities and ensure cultural inclusion across the organisation.

You will;

  • Provide Leadership and Guidance: Lead the integration of cultural perspectives across all aspects of the EACH’s work. You will ensure cultural awareness is embedded in policies, frameworks, and practices.
  • Develop and Implement Plans: Create and execute planning that includes a cultural competency framework, a workforce representation plan, and strategies for securing sustainable funding for services.
  • Support Reconciliation Action Plan: Collaborate with key stakeholders to implement, deliver and communicate EACH’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Advocate for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Rights: Provide advocacy and support for the equality and rights of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people within EACH, advising on strategy and cultural engagement.
  • Build Relationships: Establish and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations, and stakeholders, promoting collaboration and fostering partnerships.
  • Promote Cultural Initiatives: Lead the promotion of cultural events, activities, and initiatives that celebrate Indigenous peoples and their rich cultural heritage.

About You

We’re looking for a passionate Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander leader with lived experience, who is dedicated to advocating for cultural inclusion, building strong community relationships, and driving positive change within the organisation.

You will bring:

  • Personal Identification & Lived Experience: Identifies as Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander with firsthand knowledge of cultures and communities.
  • Sector Experience: Experience in health and social care with strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Advocacy & Leadership: Ability to advocate for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander rights and influence policy.
  • Strategic & Framework Development: Experience in developing and implementing cultural competency frameworks and strategies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong relationship management and ability to navigate diverse perspectives.
  • Project & Change Management: Proven skills in driving organisational change and improving outcomes.
  • Communication & Reporting: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports and presentations.
