The EACH Ngarrang Gulinj-al Boordup (NGB) Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Team supports and assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community members to access the health and community services they need.

Who we are looking for

A committed Social Emotional Wellbeing Worker who wants to improve access for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Eastern Naarm (Melbourne) communities with experience working alongside the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community in a health/welfare setting. This is a full-time or part-time (0.8FTE) role offered until 30 June 2022.

You will have:

  • experience working alongside the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community in a health/welfare setting,
  • tertiary qualifications in mental health or related field
  • an ability to collaborate effectively with clients, families, colleagues, stakeholders and other service providers
  • a high level of accountability and self-management, and enjoy working collaboratively with team members to deliver positive outcomes for clients, and
  • a demonstrated and strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture, and Cultural protocols.

What you will be doing

Operating from EACH's Narre Warren site, you will be working as a member of the Ngarrang Gulinj-al Boordup (NGB) Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing team.

This role will work within a program that is delivered Victoria-wide by 3 organisations (EACH, ACSO, and NEAMI). EACH delivers this program across the North East, inner East, Outer East and South East Metropolitan regions of Melbourne.

In the position, you will work as a member of a multidisciplinary Mental Health team. Key aspects of the position will see you:

  • Provide intake, assessment, referral and psychosocial support for clients facing challenges and barriers to good mental health,
  • Use a strength-based approach to the role, looking for opportunities to complement and support existing client strengths and capacities,
  • Establish and maintain strong, supportive, and professional working relationships with clients,
  • Provide support to clients, travel to appointments, and assist with the completion of forms,
  • Ensure clients are referred to culturally appropriate and effective mental health care services to support mental health and wellbeing, and
  • Work alongside Aboriginal Health Workers and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to deliver culturally safe and appropriate services.
