About us

Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC) is a multidisciplinary legal service that works to prevent problems, progress fair outcomes and support the wellbeing and resilience of communities and community members in Melbourne’s East.

The Centre provides free legal assistance, information, referral and community education, and undertakes primary prevention activities and strategic advocacy to change systems, structures and practices.

About the role

The Director of Partnerships and Community Engagement oversees leadership, management, and coordination of the Centre’s interactions with diverse local communities and a range of programs, collaborations, and projects. This role covers three primary teams, each led by its own manager: the Assessment, Intake, Referral, and Response (AIRR) Team; Communications and Fundraising; and Primary Prevention and Education.

As the organisation evolves to meet varied community needs, the Director will also identify and pursue new resource opportunities aligned with the Centre’s strategic direction. Additionally, the Director plays a crucial leadership role alongside three other Directors and the CEO.

About You

You will provide leadership and strategic direction in collaboration with the Directors and CEO, ensuring that services align with the organisation's mission and goals. You will support continuous improvement and innovation, foster internal and external collaboration, and guide staff in effective, transparent processes. Additionally, you will supervise and mentor managers, oversee project development, and maintain a positive organisational profile through partnerships and community engagement.

You will also be responsible for managing project plans, ensuring compliance with agreements, and leading community development initiatives. Engaging in professional development and adhering to organisational values are essential, as well as participating actively in meetings and organisational activities. Decision-making authority includes overseeing daily operations and financial aspects, with strategic decisions made in consultation with the CEO.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role with responsibility of delivering key services within community and/or community legal sector
  • Understanding of and experience working within a community development framework, including demonstrated ability to engage and liaise successfully with a diverse range of stakeholders in the community and government sectors at a senior level
  • Knowledge and understanding of legal and related issues within the community and legal assistance service frameworks, relevant government policy and initiatives for communities experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
