Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC) is a multidisciplinary legal service that works to prevent problems, progress fair outcomes and support the wellbeing and resilience of communities and community members in Melbourne’s East.
The Centre provides free legal assistance, information, referral and community education, and undertakes primary prevention activities and strategic advocacy to change systems, structures and practices.

The role forms part of the leadership team within ECLC and the Family Violence Initiatives Directorate (FVI) which is responsible for three multidisciplinary family violence legal programs, namely SAGE, Mabels and WELS.
The Managing Lawyer – Family Violence Initiatives (SAGE Lead) will collaborate closely with the Managing Lawyer – Family Violence Initiatives (Mabels & WELS Lead) and the broader leadership team to enhance the development and delivery of ECLC’s key multidisciplinary family violence legal programs.
This role involves supervising and mentoring Community Lawyers across the Programs, as well as the Intake and Assessment Paralegal for SAGE. Additionally, the Managing Lawyer – Family Violence Initiatives (SAGE Lead) will offer legal advice and assistance to family violence clients as needed, focusing primarily on the SAGE Program within an integrated practice model.
This position will also help build partnerships with key organisations in the region, participate in secondary consultations, and provide community legal education as necessary.
You will be an experienced lawyer with extensive Family Law litigation experience, passionate about helping women and children live safely. You will have experience working with or within a multi-disciplinary environment, preferably in family violence.
You will have experience or an interest in managing, mentoring and developing others and possess excellent communication and partnership skills. You will have the ability to manage multiple, competing demands and the desire to grow with the organisation.
You will have experience engaging successfully with a diverse range of stakeholders at all levels and demonstrated ability to operate successfully in an autonomous role.
