Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA) is a national, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting families and carers of individuals with eating disorders. Our mission is to provide education, resources, and a supportive community to empower families in navigating their loved one’s recovery journey.
EDFA’s Board Members contribute to the strategic direction, governance, and growth of the organisation. The expertise, perspective and leadership of the EDFA Board provides support to the Executive Director and underpins the organisation in achieving its mission and expanding its impact.
As EDFA continues to expand its reach and impact, we recognise the importance of strategic and innovative use of technology to enhance our operations, digital assets, and support service.
EDFA is seeking a Board Member with specific expertise in technology to guide and oversee the strategic direction of our digital assets, infrastructure, and cybersecurity. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that EDFA leverages technology effectively to achieve its mission while maintaining data security and operational efficiency.
As a national organisation, EDFA programs are delivered remotely. As such, the responsibilities of this volunteer position can be carried out from any location in Australia.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Contribute to the development and oversight of EDFA’s strategic goals and initiatives.
- Provide insights and recommendations on key decisions to strengthen EDFA’s programs and operations.
Governance and Compliance:
- Uphold EDFA’s mission, values, and policies in all Board activities.
- Ensure compliance with legal, financial, and regulatory obligations.
- Act in the best interest of EDFA, avoiding conflicts of interest.
Advocacy and Representation:
- Act as an ambassador for EDFA, promoting its vision and mission to external stakeholders.
- Build connections with key partners, sponsors, and community leaders.
Financial Oversight:
- Monitor EDFA’s financial performance and ensure sustainability.
- Contribute to fundraising efforts and resource development strategies.
Collaboration and Contribution:
- Participate actively in Board meetings and subcommittees as required.
- Provide expertise in your area of knowledge to support organisational objectives.
Experience & Capabilities
Essential:
- A demonstrated passion for EDFA’s mission to support families and carers of individuals with eating disorders.
- Proven expertise in technology strategy, digital transformation, or IT governance.
- Experience in cybersecurity, data governance, or digital infrastructure management.
- Understanding of not-for-profit or health sector challenges, particularly in virtual service delivery.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Commitment to ensure all services and interactions adhere to best practice guidelines, professional standards, and EDFA’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality support to families
Desirable:
- Lived experience as a carer of someone with an eating disorder is preferred.
- Experience serving on a Board or in a leadership role is highly regarded but not essential.
- Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) membership or willingness to obtain (completion of Company Directors Course is highly regarded).
Commitment:
- Attend monthly Board meetings (conducted virtually) and participate in additional meetings or events as required.
- Prepare for and contribute to strategic discussions and decision-making.
- Serve a minimum two-year term, with the opportunity for renewal.
Location:
EDFA operates nationally, and Board Members participate virtually, enabling individuals from all regions to join. The EDFA Board currently has representatives from all Australian states and territories, except Tasmania and the Northern Territory.
